Hi saga , are you from the East Coast of Scotland?
Very good video.......most informative....😀
Thanks a lot 😊
Get prosuction love it
That was Short & Sweet! Would love to see a more in depth tour! Times are hard it cost too much to travel to beautiful destinations and ancestral places. 🥺thanku
Glad you liked it! Thanks for the feedback 😊
I just found out that I have genetic links to that castle! I want to do more research, but I don't even know where to start. My mind is blown from what I've come across so far.
We always recommend Canmore if you want to know more about a site: canmore.org.uk/search/site?SIMPLE_KEYWORD=dundonald%20castle
I built this castle in minecraft a year ago! It has a surprisingly complicated interior, lots of twisting stairs and weird room entrances. Also, it has a really crazy chimney and toilet chute network. It took about a week over winter break to get it done, simply because of how thick the walls were, and how detailed the rooms were. I followed the floor plan and architectural drawings I found online so it is pretty much an exact replica of it in minecraft. It has to be one of my favorite minecraft recreations along with Dunollie. I haven't actually been there, so most of my references for that project were online, and this was one of them! I have it on my UA-cam channel, and I was wondering. Since you guys have actually been there, are there any improvements I could do to the interior? There were lots of rooms that I could not find a single photo of, only the stone plan, so I have no clue how they were decorated or how the furniture within was arranged. I would love to know how close I got to the actual thing! (btw for the project I did restore the damaged wall and battlements)
That's amazing! We'll take a look and get back to you 😊
Sorry for the delayed reply. We asked David, who said: "Please do pass on my appreciation of their efforts! The amount of detail they achieved is fantastic, and it made for a really enjoyable watch. The best source on Borthwick Castle that I'm aware of, other than a copy of the guidebook, is Richard Oram's study of it: Oram R (2015) Towers and Households in Later Medieval Scotland. In: Oram RD (ed.) 'A House That Thieves Might Knock At'. Tower Studies, 1 & 2. Donington: Shaun Tyas, pp. 231-257." We hope that's helpful 😊
@@DigItTV Thank you so much! I'll definitely look into that!
I'm a piper in the States and have MacDuff lineage through the Phyffes (or thus it was spelled in a Spanish census in the 1790's). My son and I sought out and found the castle ruin many years ago when it was accessible to explore. And we did. In retrospect, it was foolish and dangerous, but we enjoyed it at the time. Thanks for telling the story of the castle.
Thanks for watching!
My friends got married there before the big hotel chain purchased it a while back. It was a bit more rustic then. We stayed in the supposedly haunted "Crimson Room". Other than bad plumbing, no ghosts showed. I heard noises, but it was just the Hagus they served us for dinner working it's way thru my wife's digestive tract. We hired some cast members from "Braveheart" to do the wedding and it definitely felt like a special place!
Fascinating. This is an excellent illustration of our Culture. We have descended from the heights of Medieval Thought and stolen stones and mortar and glass to build a society of meaninglessness. The Modernity is but the thrown together ruins of the Medieval World.
I am descended from [Mac]Duff and MacIntosh clans. When I read MacBeth in college, little did I know I was connected to the real 'MacDuff the Crime Dog of Scotland' (as we nicknamed the character then). This is fascinating - thank you for sharing! Gorgeous view - I may add this to a future visit to Scotland.
Glad you enjoyed the video!
I just traced direct ancestry to this castle through the Sir Wilsons - the Earls of Cupar. I am a New Englander but would like to visit one day. Thank you for a great tour. I've subscribed. I have been to Europe about 25 times (pre covid) but not to Scotland yet. It is high on the list. Especially with the ancestral ties for many centuries before my Great great grandparents decided to come to America.
We hope you can visit some day too 😊
I lived there for a few months in 1973. First in a small room off a spiral staircase in the main building then in the round tower to the right of the main entrance gate. Often left overnight on my own… felt other presences sometimes .. but not really in a scary way
Wow! That must have been an amazing experience.
He was my 12 th great grandfather.
I have been told that some of the Pringle family are buried in the building.
Built to impress not for defence.
My aunt owns it
As a Crichton I approve this message. Sadly no relation 😢
Glad you like the video!
We've dropped the Mac somewhere along the way but my family are still Dougalls and my Uncle still lives in Ayrshire
Thank you for sharing, I just subscribed!
Fantastic!
This castle is very beautiful, can you restore it quickly and take shelter inside?
When I was the production manager my favourite was what we called "Texas" which was the version of Belhaven Scottish Ale that we exported to Texas.
I've been buying it in New Braunfels, Texas! Probably my favorite stout I've had!
Nice job.❤
I've traced My Family Lineage to Scotland and this is One of a few Castles that My Family had.
Wow! Who was the family, Allen?
@@DigItTV The Hay's.
what is this guy's accent? half-american half-irish?
Born and raised a proud Canadian and now a Scot!
@@DigItTV nice!
Hello. Thank you for your wonderful video. I am actually going to be visiting Kilmartin Glen at the end of April. I am beyond excited. I am actually somewhat disabled. So I am wondering how accessible the various Pictish/Monolithic features are. What are the distances and terrain that I would need to cross on foot to get from site to site. Could you give me some insight? I so appreciate your thoughts on the subject. Thank you, Christine
Hi Christine, thanks for this comment. We're thrilled to hear you're going to visit Kilmartin Glen. We'd recommend getting in touch either with Kilmartin Museum by email or Historic Environment Scotland on social media, who should be able to give you some pointers about the sites' accessibility. We hope that helps and have a great trip!
You need FAR more sequences of the interior of the Castle, run the voice over those shots... Too much of you,in shot, lm afraid to say... but nothing wrong with your commentary...
Thanks for the feedback!
Loved this! Ty
We're so glad! Thank you!
In the late 1970's I was in the churchyard looking at gravestones, with my two young daughters. A lady approached me as she was exercising her dog, and told me that she lived in the castle. Her name was Helen Baillie, and she told me about Tinto Sand and Gravel who were intending to open a quarry near the castle, which would affect its foundations and likely cause the castle considerable damage. She asked me if I was willing to help raise funds for employing a legal team to fight the for refusal to grant the company permission to open the quarry. I'd never been involved with anything like this before, but she managed to get some local estate owners to meet up in the great hall of the castle, and we discussed opening the castle with guides telling people about the castles history and the peril it faced if the quarry was allowed to exist! I had my family involved with seeing to parking in a field nearby, and for the catering of afternoon teas. It went very well and we were able to pay for most of the costs of having a good lawyer to defend the castle's rights to exist, and won! Helen Baillie was a wonderful woman, who was willing to fight tooth and nail to ensure the castle was not at risk. Your video is excellent and brought back the memories of that day. Thankyou.
Thanks - a lovely spot, which my family always called the Fairy Knight's Tower. You didn't mention the seal colony that live on the rocks just off the castle.
Thanks for the info, David! Is there a story to go along with the Fairy Knight name?
Interesting until the local SPIRITUALIST and her lies is mentioned, we're in the 21st century, not back in the days when even the loch Ness monster hoax conned the world,.
James IV was my 14th great grandfather!!
Mine too! Through Janet Fleming. My Grandma, Dads mom was Virgina Fleming.
Cromwell was not "gracious"!
😍Delighted with the video. Thank you very much for the Spanish subtitles. Greetings from Dominican Republic. 💗
Glad you enjoyed it!
Love your channel. It allows me to explore my Scottish and Irish ancestry. I have Wemyss ancestry on my mother side. I didn’t understand how the Wemyss clan were descendants of the MacDuffs. I’m a little confused. I know when my Wemyss ancestors came to America they spelled the last name wrong. In America it is spelled Weems. I didn’t know that until I checked into it years ago. I wish the people at Ports of Entry would have been more accurate and caring. Don’t mess with my Scottish ancestry… Lol.🏴🇺🇸
I really love this video!!
Thank you!
I have visited Dundonald Castle twice.
It's quite a place!
I absolutely love videos like this! I am lucky to have found your channel because I get so much interesting info through it. Thanks!
So pleased you enjoy them!
When is St Andrew's Day? How does one celebrate? What did he do? Can we see the Pictish art close up?
30th November.
Hi Merry, yes, you can see the Pictish stones in the small museum on the St Andrews Cathedral site.
Excellent video. I wanted it to be longer.
👍
That's so kind, thank you James!
I was born in Macduff spent all my childhood down beach at caves and playing at Mscduff castle sitting on hill looking across sea to bass rock good days thank you for video
Sounds idyllic. Thanks for sharing, Elizabeth!
Definitely haunted
Thank you. My paternal grandmother is a Dunbar and my sister and I are visiting this September.

The dig it TV emblem looks like a butt plug.
Spent many a day and night at the mausoleum. I nearly lost my dog who jumped over the small wall and fell about 25 feet and landed outside the cript. I was so thankfull when with one small yip he got up and limped away. The springer spanial was Zak if anyone remembers lmk. MC
I worked with a guard dog in my last job. I was walking past the mausoleum while the work owner was walking him . The dog ( Toby ) had spotted me and coming to greet me also jumped that same small wall . I wonder how many other dogs have done the same.
